The Christian Reformed Church is a South African evangelical church. We are committed to being church the way Jesus envisioned and to serve God in our communities. We live for the mission to take the gospel, in all its aspects, to the whole world. Our congregations are spread accross the country, representing the diverse South African culture. Our services are informal and welcoming, mostly in Afrikaans. Please join us!
This is our mission statement:
The Christian Reformed Church of South Africa is an evangelical church, born out of revival and called to minister the Word of God by the power of the Holy Spirit, both prophetically and to heal, by:
proclaiming the good news of salvation through Christ to the people,
establishing congregations as places of equipment, ministry and celebration for the spiritual edification of the believers,
leading our communities out of bondage, hurt and poverty to freedom, healing and hope.
To this end we are formally organised to manage the church effectively in fulfilling her calling, while remaining sensitive to the renewing work of the Holy Spirit.
Where do we come from?
The Christian Reformed Church originated in 1944 in Durban. Following a revival that was experienced in the Dutch Reformed Church of Durban, Dr. DJJ de Vos, the local minister, started the church that resulted in die CRC. The church is Reformed in its doctrine and evangelical in its church life, emphasizing the need for all to find salvation in Jesus Christ.
What do we believe?
The church’s beliefs are set out in the classic Reformed confessions, e.g. the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, the Canons of Dordt, the Westminster Confession and the 39 Articles. Of course, all confessions remain subordinate to God’s Word, which is our ultimate guide and rule. The Reformed approach emphasizes God’s initiative and sovereignty in our lives.
